What to expect when you get tested

We know that COVID-19 travel testing can be stressful, so we will make it as easy as possible for you.

Our highly-trained healthcare staff adhere to mandatory DAP healthcare procedures for specimen collection. For adults, we will require a nasal swab and for children a mouth rinse. If you have questions, our friendly staff would be happy to help.

Before Your Test Date

When you book an appointment, our staff works hard to prepare, welcome you, and deliver the fast results we promise. We understand that travel restrictions during COVID are constantly changing and that life happens. Our policies allow you to reschedule your appointment for no fee up to 24 hours in advance.

In the case of a no-show or last-minute cancellation, for RT-PCR tests, the deposit fee initially made at booking is forfeit. For Antigen Tests, full refunds will be issued if the cancellation is 48 hours before the appointment. Send in your cancellation/rescheduling requests by email: [email protected]

  • If you are planning to use the test results for international travel, you must select a test appropriate for your destination. A good starting point is the IATA website.
  • RT-PCR/NAAT test detects an active COVID-19 infection. This method has the highest accuracy rate and is currently the Gold Standard in COVID-19 testing methods.   
  • Antigen testing, while cheaper and quicker (results in 15 minutes), is less sensitive than the RT-PCR test but is accepted for travel to certain countries such as the USA.

Reverse Transcriptase – Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) is otherwise known as Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) or molecular testing. It is a diagnostic tool that can detect an active COVID-19 infection through nasal or nasopharyngeal swabs. Samples that are collected will be sent to our personal labs for testing, guaranteeing results within 12 or 24 hours depending on your choice. This method has the highest sensitivity and is the Gold Standard in COVID-19 testing methods.   

Please note that if you require a nasopharyngeal swab, it is only available at our Fairmont Hotel Vancouver location.

Rapid Antigen testing detects specific antigens indicative of a current infection. It is a small device that collects a nasal sample and produces a result in 15 to 20 minutes. While it is less sensitive than RT-PCR it is far quicker and more affordable. However, Rapid Antigen tests are only accepted for travel to certain countries (such as the US), so be sure to check the travel requirements of your destination prior to booking.

Certain countries require the nasopharyngeal specimen as part of their COVID-19 entry requirements. In general, most countries accept the bilateral nasal swab that only goes 1.5 cms up your nostril.

If your flight is not direct, abide by directions of the country with the strictest COVID-19 regulations.

Our Fit to Fly certificates are customized to you. For travelers to Japan, we offer the Japanese cover letter required for entry into the country. You may use our results to travel to any country that requires an RT-PCR/NAAT or Antigen test for entry.

No. For the safety of our healthcare professionals and the general public, we only test asymptomatic individuals. If you are showing any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to it, please call 811 immediately and self-isolate.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover credit/debit cards. You will enter your payment information when you book your appointment. You will be charged a non-refundable deposit when you reserve a spot online, the rest will be billed to you at the time of your appointment.

In exceptional circumstances we accept cash, however we prefer payment via card.

All information is stored on Canadian servers. We never store information that is not required for us to provide you with our service. Your personal information is only shared within the FastTest staff on a need to know basis as customer confidentiality is of our highest priorities.

On Your Test Date

When you arrive at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, or at a London Drugs partnered location, you will first check in with the concierge or pharmacist. They will ask you to present your passport and will verify this information. Once this step is completed, you will be directed to a nurse or pharmacist who will explain the process and collect the sample.
We do not provide parking but upon getting your confirmation email post booking, you will receive a link that will help you find parking nearby.

The appointment should take approximately 10 mins. That’s Fast!

We promise it is not as uncomfortable as you might have heard! Nasal swabs will only go about 1.5 cms into your nasal cavity for approximately 16 seconds. The nasopharyngeal swab must be inserted deeper to reach the nasopharynx located at the upper part of the throat.


After Your Test

Your results will be emailed to the address provided at the time of booking in a single PDF which includes a personalized Fit to Fly certificate, the lab report, and our accreditation certificates.
Yes. Each individual will receive a personalized Fit to Fly travel certificate, and a Japan-specific one if necessary.

Yes! We have our own lab  that allows us to guarantee the timelines. If we can’t get the results to you on time, your test is on us!
